Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake - This is the largest and most dangerous of Florida's native snakes. The rattlesnake can be recognized by its pattern of yellow-bordered diamond-shaped body markings. It has a rattling mechanism at the end of its tail which it may rattle when disturbed. Its head is arrow-shaped and wider than its neck. These snakes are found throughout Florida and should be regarded with extreme caution. Although it is found in all terrain, its main inhabitants are palmetto flatlands, pine woods, abandoned fields, and brushy grassy areas.
